39-year-old Birgül Büyükmanisa, who lives in the Kırkağaç district of Manisa, applied to Kırkağaç State Hospital complaining of abdominal pain. After being referred to the urology department, a mass was detected in Büyükmanisa's bladder.

Birgül Büyükmanisa was taken to the operating table to have the mass, which was identified as a result of examinations and imaging performed by Specialist Doctor Ümit Gümüş, removed.

As a result of the operation, a stone weighing 1 kilogram and 6 grams and measuring 18 centimeters in length was removed.

Birgül Büyükmanisa, from whose body an incredible mass was removed via open surgery, managed to stand up a day later and thanked the medical team that restored her to a healthy life.

Stating that she had been suffering from pain for many years, Büyükmanisa said, “I had complaints for 10 years, but I didn't fully understand the seriousness of the situation. I have had a lot of pain for the last month. Then I went to the Kırkağaç State Hospital Emergency Department, where they gave me medication. I had an X-ray taken and went to Doctor Ümit Gümüş. Our doctor said, 'You have a major problem. You have a large stone in your bladder.' May God be pleased with him. Thank God our surgery went well. I had quite a nice stone. May God be pleased with our doctor, our nurses, and our chief physician, all of them. I used to be afraid of going to the hospital, but now they are all very good. They have been taking great care of me since yesterday. I am very well now, thank God. I have some pain, but that is to be expected, of course. I am paying the price for those 10 years.”

Mehmet Büyükmanisa, who said his wife had been suffering for 10 years, stated, “We have suffered great difficulties for 10 years. We came to Kırkağaç State Hospital. Here, our doctor Ümit Gümüş treated my wife. We are now comfortable. I thank him very much.”

"WE PLAN TO DISCHARGE OUR PATIENT"

Providing information about the surgery, Kırkağaç State Hospital Chief Physician Dr. Mehmet Fatih Yazıcı said, “Our 39-year-old female patient presented to our Urology Polyclinic with complaints of difficulty urinating and a feeling of incomplete emptying. After our physician Ümit Gümüş evaluated her at the Urology Polyclinic, he detected a giant bladder stone. A bladder stone approximately 18 centimeters in size and weighing 1 kilogram was removed via a cystolithotomy operation. Our patient's follow-up continues in the ward after the operation. Hopefully, if there are no complications, we plan to discharge her in good health.”

The successful physician who performed the surgery, Dr. Ümit Gümüş, stated that they would investigate whether a similar case has occurred in Turkey or the world.
