Smoking cessation treatment is now free!

In Turkey, 80 thousand people lose their lives every year due to reasons stemming from smoking-related health problems.

With a decision published in the Official Gazette, steps have been taken for the free treatment of nicotine addiction. Smoking cessation treatment and the nicotine replacement preparations and medications provided to such patients will be offered free of charge at healthcare institutions. The quantity of these treatments and medications will be limited to 500,000 units.

The decision in the Official Gazette will ensure that the patients in question benefit from public services free of charge or at a discount when receiving these treatments and medications. In this context, the treatments and medications in question will be exempt from the provisions of Law No. 4736.

Considering that 8 million people worldwide lose their lives annually due to smoking, the harms of smoking on health carry great importance. In Turkey, it is known that 80 thousand people lose their lives annually due to smoking-related health problems.
