Statement from Fahrettin Koca regarding those who book MHRS appointments and do not show up!

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca met with tradespeople and citizens on Ali Fuat Başgil Street in Bayrampaşa as part of the AKP's local election campaign.

Speaking about the occupancy rates in intensive care units, Minister Koca said that about two months ago, there was a partial intensive care bed problem in Turkey, and it was slightly more pronounced in Istanbul.

Minister Koca noted the following:

"Currently, the intensive care bed occupancy rate in Turkey is 69 percent, and in our Istanbul, it is 72 percent. The inpatient ward bed occupancy rate is 60 percent in Turkey and 66 percent in Istanbul. In this sense, the intensity we saw two months ago is no longer present in our intensive care and inpatient wards, neither in Turkey nor in Istanbul. We are more comfortable in this regard."

STATEMENT FROM KOCA ON MHRS

Speaking about patients who book appointments through the Central Physician Appointment System (MHRS) but do not show up, Koca stated that they are aware that citizens experience some problems with appointments from time to time, and that the problem is particularly in sub-specialty branches.

Noting that their intensive efforts are continuing, Koca said:

"With the legislative change made, including sub-specialties, and the exam held last month, we have reached nearly 100 percent occupancy. Along with these problems we experience from time to time, we expect our citizens to support us as well. I have said it a few times. There were those who expressed it by saying, 'I guess our citizens are seen as the ones responsible,' but I am not saying it in that sense. We are aware of the problem; we know that this problem is more pronounced, especially regarding some branches. We are making efforts to overcome this, and we expect our citizens to do their part in this regard."

Giving an example regarding the subject, Koca pointed out that the number of patients seen in Bayrampaşa last year was approximately 1 million 100 thousand, the number of patients who came with an appointment was 400 thousand, and the number of people who booked an appointment but did not show up was 110 thousand.

"STARTING FROM NEXT MONTH..."

Minister Koca said, "This is not right. We must show sensitivity at this point. The rights of 110 thousand of our patients who could have had the opportunity to be treated are being taken away. I am talking about a right that we will not be able to repay. We all expect to do our part together; as the ministry, we expect our citizens to do their part with sensitivity in this regard. Starting from next month, we have carried out a series of studies, especially against the situation of booking an appointment and not showing up, and I want to say that we will continue this step by step until we solve the problem."
