Stem cell donation: A life-saving opportunity

The Turkish Red Crescent has reached over 1 million stem cell donor candidates through the Turkish Stem Cell Coordination Center (TÜRKÖK) project, which it conducts in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.

The Importance and Necessity of Stem Cell Donation

In a statement made by the Turkish Red Crescent, it was noted that the TÜRKÖK project has increased the number of donor candidates for patients in need of stem cell treatment to 1 million 166. Stem cell transplantation is of vital importance in the treatment of various health problems such as bone marrow cancers, lymphomas, and hereditary diseases.

A Special Message for World Marrow Donor Day

On the occasion of World Marrow Donor Day, celebrated on the third Saturday of September each year, Turkish Red Crescent President Prof. Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz thanked the stem cell donors. Yılmaz stated, "Stem cell donation is sometimes the only hope for life for a child with leukemia, and sometimes for a young person with a hereditary disease. We invite every healthy individual to give a blood sample for stem cell donation."
