Surprising truth revealed about patient complaining of back pain

In Eskişehir, an 83-year-old citizen suffering from lower back and back pain applied to the City Hospital Emergency Department. Following initial examinations by emergency physicians, the 83-year-old patient was diagnosed with 'Type A aortic dissection,' commonly known as an 'aortic rupture.'

The patient, who was taken into emergency surgery by cardiovascular surgeons, was kept under observation in the intensive care unit for 3 days following a successful 6-hour operation.

The patient, who is expected to regain their health following the successful surgery performed by cardiovascular surgeons Dr. İbrahim Çağrı Kaya and Dr. Yıldırım Gültekin, along with anesthesiologist Dr. Sadık Özkavak, has been moved to the ward and is awaiting discharge.

'DEATH IS INEVITABLE IF THE PATIENT IS NOT OPERATED ON'

Providing information about the surgery, Assistant Professor Dr. İbrahim Çağrı Kaya stated: “Unfortunately, half of the patients with aortic dissections lose their lives before receiving a diagnosis, and for those who are diagnosed, the mortality rate is 50 percent. This rate increases by one percent for every hour the disease remains untreated, and if the patient is not operated on, death is inevitable.

Success in aortic dissection surgeries is possible in centers with experienced 'Heart Teams' where emergency medicine, cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, and anesthesia departments work in coordination and harmony. Considering the age group our patient is in, their recovery has been a source of pride for all of us.”
