These addictions lower a person's quality of life

Addiction is defined as a state in which individuals lose control over a specific substance or behavior.

In such cases, the quality of life of those addicted declines, and it becomes difficult for them to integrate into social life.

Stating that it is possible to break free from the most common addictions, including smoking, alcohol, drugs, gambling, internet, social media, eating, and shopping, Psychologist İrem Durna provided information on the key points of getting rid of habits that lower one's quality of life.

Touching upon the negative effects of untreated addictions on human life, Psychologist İrem Durna said, “In such situations, a person may find it difficult to quit the substance or behavior they are dependent on; even if they want to quit or stop, they may struggle to control themselves and may constantly take action to satisfy this need. Addictions often come with psychological and physical effects. They can negatively affect an individual's social, professional, and personal life. The psychological dimensions of addictions can be associated with factors such as traumatic experiences, emotional disorders, lack of self-esteem, and stress. These factors are elements that must be taken into account during the treatment process.”

''IT IS POSSIBLE TO OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES WITH THE RIGHT PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVENTION''

Stating that it is possible to lead a high-quality life by breaking free from habits, İrem Durna said, “Smoking, alcohol, drugs, gambling, internet, social media, eating, and shopping are among the addictions we struggle with the most. When such addictions take control of your life, you may feel helpless. When they cannot be overcome, addictions lower individuals' quality of life and can damage their social relationships. At this point, psychological intervention is an effective method for coping with addictions. Addictions have different causes and symptoms in every individual. Therefore, personalized therapy approaches should be used in the recovery process. Individual therapy sessions help the individual discover their addictive behaviors and triggers, and subsequently, to break free from dependency. It is possible to overcome these challenges with the right psychological intervention.”
