These tests show your likelihood of dying
Six quick health tests have been prepared to help you understand your risk of developing health problems in the next 10 years and whether your life is at risk. You can perform these tests at home in 15 minutes...
While we cannot know for sure whether you will die in the next 10 years, it is possible to learn this through certain tests. Here are 6 tests you can easily perform in a home environment that show your likelihood of dying within 10 years...
DO PUSH-UPS
A 2019 study of 1,104 middle-aged men revealed that the higher the number of push-ups performed, the lower the risk of death from cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke. Being able to do fewer than 11 push-ups indicates an above-average risk. Doing more than 40 at once reduces the risk by 96 percent.
SIT AND STAND
You should repeat this five times with your arms crossed over your chest. An analysis revealed that an average person in their 60s should be able to perform these repetitions in under 11.4 seconds, someone in their 70s in under 12.6 seconds, and someone in their 80s in under 14.8 seconds. The second version is slightly more difficult because you need to sit on the floor. Sit on the floor and stand up with minimal support. Middle-aged and elderly people who need to use both their hands and knees to stand up are five to six times more likely to die within six years.
STAND IN BALANCE
According to a study, people who cannot manage to stand in balance on one leg are more likely to die in the next ten years. Brazilian scientists revealed that those who cannot maintain their balance on one leg for at least 10 seconds are 84 percent more likely to die from any cause within 10 years. It is estimated that 684,000 people worldwide die each year due to falls caused by an inability to maintain balance, and many others suffer from complications that eventually result in death.
CLIMB STAIRS
A study suggests that heart problems and the risk of death can be predicted by looking at how long it takes to climb 60 steps, or approximately four flights of stairs. Scientists found that every middle-aged person should be able to do this in less than a minute. A time exceeding 90 seconds in particular indicates that your health is "sub-optimal." People who take this long to climb stairs are 30 percent more likely to die within ten years.
TEST YOUR GRIP STRENGTH
Scientists believe that "grip strength" is another metric that indicates a person's health level. You can test this with a simple handshake or by hanging from a pull-up bar for as long as possible. Experts say the reasonable goal is 60 seconds for men and 30 seconds for women. In a study conducted with more than half a million people, it was observed that men with only 30 seconds of grip strength and women who could manage 15 seconds were more likely to die prematurely.
TAKE A STEP
A study conducted at the University of Pittsburgh revealed that people with an average life expectancy in their 60s walk at about 0.8 meters per second. Scientists say those who walk at one meter per second are more likely to survive longer, and those who walk at 1.2 meters per second are likely to have an "extraordinarily" long life, but anyone walking slower than 0.6 meters per second may have "damaged their bodily systems." This significantly increases the risk of premature death. You can test yourself by calculating how long it takes to walk six meters at your normal pace and then dividing this by six.
