Tips to prevent dry skin in winter

It is known that regular skincare helps prevent skin problems such as pimples, blemishes, acne, blackheads, and wrinkles.

Dermatology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asude Kara Polat made statements regarding skincare in the winter months.

Cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection are the basic steps in a skincare routine. The important thing in the first step, cleansing, is not to use hot water while bathing. Very hot water disrupts the skin's natural oil layer and makes the skin drier. Lukewarm water should be preferred instead.

AVOID STAYING IN THE BATH FOR A LONG TIME

Soap should not be used in the bath; shower gels or soap-free cleansers should be used. People with dry skin types can also prefer baby products. These individuals should also avoid scrubbing and staying in the bath for a long time. Toners can irritate dry skin and lead to redness.

Moisturizing the skin is very important. At this point, it is necessary to use moisturizers suitable for the skin type. After every bath, the entire body should be moisturized with creams and lotions. Again, oil-based intensive moisturizers can be preferred more in winter. Dryness, cracking, and peeling can also be observed on the lips in winter. Therefore, it is important to moisturize the lips as well. Accordingly, there are many lip balms on the market with intensive moisturizing properties, and it is important to reapply them throughout the day.

If the environment is stuffy and dry, humidifiers can be used to maintain ambient humidity. This prevents the skin from drying out further. Especially people with dry and sensitive skin can prefer milk or lotion as a cleanser in winter, and oily moisturizing face creams can become an essential part of your skincare. People with combination or oily skin can also use products with intensive moisturizing agents. Regardless of your skin type, you need to moisturize your skin at least twice a day.

COLD WEATHER CAN DRY OUT YOUR HANDS

Hands are heavily affected by wind and cold in winter. Wearing gloves when going out is protective. It is important in winter to use a moisturizing cream in the morning and to moisturize your hands again after every hand wash. Powder-free gloves should be used to avoid contact with household cleaning products.

The most accurate skincare product is the one that is suitable for the person's skin type and is necessary to protect and maintain the skin's health. What is important here is the cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen cream, lotion, or stick that is suitable for the skin, which is common for everyone. Of course, regular and continuous use is essential here.

TO STRENGTHEN HAIR...

Moisturizing is also important for hair and nails in winter. Hair care oils, moisture masks, and protective balms for nails can be used. Various natural oils are recommended for dry hair and skin. Organic oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, and argan oil can be used for dry and damaged hair. They nourish and repair the hair.

In a study conducted, the effectiveness and benefits of sweet almond, evening primrose, and jojoba oils in skincare applications were examined, and they were shown to be effective ingredients in skincare preparations for strengthening the integrity, recovery, and lipid ratio of the stratum corneum, which is the outermost layer of the skin.
