Tomatoes posing health risks are being pulled from shelves
Following the detection of a salmonella risk in raw tomatoes in the US, products produced by two companies have been recalled. The FDA has pointed out that these products carry serious health risks.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent nationwide recall for raw tomatoes in which the salmonella bacterium was detected. This decision covers tomatoes produced by Florida-based Williams Farms Repack LLC and Indiana-based Ray & Mascari Inc. Both companies have voluntarily initiated the recall process, but the FDA has classified this situation as Class I, the highest risk category.
The tomatoes recalled by Williams Farms Repack were packaged under the label 'H&C Farms Raw Premium Tomatoes Naturally Grown from Seed' and had been distributed to many states. The lot number for the affected products was announced as 098 14TO3-1. The tomatoes recalled by Ray & Mascari were sold in different sizes and clamshell packages, and include lot numbers between RM 250420 and RM 250427.
The salmonella bacterium can lead to serious health problems, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of infection include high fever, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, this infection can also cause more serious health issues.
