Uğur Şahin gives a date for the cancer vaccine

Speaking to the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, Uğur Şahin stated, "We expect our first mRNA-based cancer vaccines to be approved before 2030. We also plan to have trial data for other therapeutic approaches between 2025 and 2029."

Emphasizing that their goal is to develop personalized cancer vaccines for every patient, Şahin said, "To do this, we analyze the cancer characteristics of each patient and select those that will enable the immune system to recognize and destroy as many tumor cells as possible."

Pointing to antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) as another source of hope, Şahin added, "ADCs are antibodies that carry chemotherapy. They circulate in the blood, reach the tumor, and release the chemotherapy there in a targeted manner. The importance of this treatment is that it can shrink the tumor very quickly in a significant portion of participants. I am confident that within a few years, more and more ADCs will be used as targeted chemotherapy instead of classic chemotherapy in many cancer cases."
