Warning against upper respiratory tract infections
Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca shared the warnings of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine faculty member Prof. Dr. Ateş Kara regarding the upward trend in upper respiratory tract infections.
Minister Koca stated in his social media post that Kara evaluated the increase in upper respiratory tract complaints during these months along with their causes and explained what needs to be done against them. Along with these statements, Koca shared the video containing Prof. Dr. Kara's assessments.
Kara stated that a large number of people have been ill in recent months and that hospital admissions have also increased, noting that the illnesses are seen relatively more frequently in children.
Stating that three main factors are effective in this situation, Kara noted the following:
"One of these factors is the RSV virus, which affects the respiratory tract; another is influenza, or the flu; and another is the coronavirus. Although the coronavirus mostly presents with symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection, it should not be underestimated due to the conditions it can cause in risk groups."
We must wash our hands frequently against infectious diseases.
Especially in crowded environments and outdoors, since contact with microorganisms may occur, we should avoid touching our mouths, noses, and eyes with our hands.
During this period, those with complaints such as sore throat, mild runny nose, mild sneezing, or coughing should take responsibility by wearing a mask to avoid transmitting a potential infection to others.
The flu vaccine can be another weapon of ours."
