Which foods threaten dental health?

Experts point out that brushing and flossing alone are not enough to protect dental health. They state that some foods in our daily diet can unknowingly damage tooth enamel and lead to tooth decay.

A list prepared by dentists in America shows that sugary and starchy foods, in particular, pose a major threat to dental health. This list also includes some snacks that appear to be healthy.

FOODS THAT NEGATIVELY AFFECT DENTAL HEALTH

Sticky candies: Candies like jelly beans and caramel stick to the tooth surface, creating an environment for bacteria to produce acid and form cavities.

Hard candies: Candies that stay in the mouth for a long time, such as mints, can damage tooth enamel and cause cracks.

Crackers: Starchy snacks turn into sugar in the mouth, accelerating bacterial growth.

Hard chips: Products like tortilla chips, in particular, can irritate the gums and lead to cracks in sensitive teeth.

Citrus fruits: Fruits such as lemons, oranges, and grapefruits weaken tooth enamel due to their acid content.

Dried fruits: Fruits like dried apricots and raisins increase the risk of decay by sticking to the tooth surface due to their high sugar content.

Ice: Chewing on ice cubes can cause teeth to break or crack.

Popcorn: While unpopped kernels can damage teeth, the hulls can get stuck in the gums and lead to inflammation.

Dentists emphasize that one should be careful when consuming these foods and highlight the importance of regular dental check-ups to protect dental health.
