108,816 applications made to the Constitutional Court in 2023! Individual application record
In 2023, 108,816 applications were made to the Constitutional Court. This is the highest number of applications seen since the establishment of the Constitutional Court. A violation decision was issued in 11,296 of the applications.
The Constitutional Court has updated its individual application statistics for the period between September 23, 2012, and December 31, 2023. Accordingly, 108,816 applications were made to the Constitutional Court in 2023. Of these applications, 109,694 were concluded. The number of pending cases stood at 59,535.
RIGHT TO A TRIAL WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME IS THE MOST FREQUENT SUBJECT OF APPLICATIONS
When looking at the distribution of applications made to the Constitutional Court by subject, the most frequent subject was the right to a trial within a reasonable time. The number of applications made on this subject was 49,108. Other than the right to a trial within a reasonable time, the most frequent subjects of application were as follows:
Right to personal liberty and security (23,893)
Right to a fair trial (22,903)
Right to property (21,217)
Principle of equality (18,217)
NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS WITH VIOLATION DECISIONS INCREASED
When looking at the decisions made by the Constitutional Court in 2023, it was observed that the number of applications in which a violation decision was issued has increased. In 2023, the Constitutional Court issued violation decisions in 11,296 applications. This figure indicates a 26.5 percent increase compared to 2022. When looking at the distribution of applications with violation decisions by subject, the subject with the most violation decisions was again the right to a trial within a reasonable time. The number of violation decisions issued on this subject was 12,112.
