Akın Gürlek puts an end to debates on general amnesty and the 'right to hope'

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek made statements regarding the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission report, which was prepared within the scope of the 'Terror-Free Turkey' project—a frequent topic of public debate—and submitted to Parliament. Minister Gürlek also clarified the claims regarding the "right to hope" and amnesty that emerged while the report in question was being discussed.

'THERE IS NO MENTION OF THE RIGHT TO HOPE IN THE REPORT'

In his assessment on NTV, Gürlek used the following expressions:

''We attach great importance to a 'Terror-Free Turkey.' People now want to be rid of the terror problem. Under the leadership of our President and with the contributions of Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, I hope we will reach this result. This report has been submitted to Parliament, and in line with this report, Parliament will make a legal arrangement. Our colleagues will assist with the technical aspects of drafting this law. The main line here is the verification of the laying down of arms and the organization ending its activities; after that, Parliament will take legal steps.

There is no mention of the right to hope in the report. There cannot be a general amnesty or an individual-specific regulation. Amendments may be made to the execution law and the anti-terror law.''
