Attacker who raided Beinsports building with a plastic gun arrested
Kemal S., who entered the building of a television channel in Istanbul with a weapon, was arrested by the court and sent to prison.
In the incident that took place on November 11 at the TV8-Beinsports building in Sarıyer, Istanbul, an individual named Kemal S. entered the building, claiming that his wife, Emine S., had been insulted by sports commentator Güntekin Onay. Kemal S. demanded that the commentator apologize. Police teams arriving at the scene persuaded Kemal S. to leave the building and took him to the police station.
Kemal S., who was referred to the courthouse the next day, was arrested on charges of 'armed threat' and 'violation of workplace immunity.' It was determined that the weapon used by the suspect was a toy. Footage of the police negotiations during the incident has also emerged.
In his statement, Kemal S. noted that he makes a living as a scrap dealer and that he listened to conversations through an application he installed on his wife's phone. He stated that he learned his wife had been scolded and insulted by a commentator at her workplace and that he went to the building, angered by this situation. "I wanted an apology to be made to my wife; my intention was not to scare anyone," he said.
Kemal S. stated, "My goal was to protect my wife. The gun in my hand was a plastic pistol, and I had no intention of killing anyone."
