Yahşihan Mayor Ahmet Sungur of Kırıkkale was taken into custody from his home in the morning hours. While no statement has been made yet regarding the reason for the detention, it is alleged that some businesspeople have also been detained.

OFFICIALS CONFIRMED

According to a report by İsmail Arı from the BirGün newspaper, Yahşihan Municipality officials confirmed that Mayor Ahmet Sungur has been taken into custody. Municipal employees could not hide their surprise following Sungur's detention.

HIS SON HAD ALSO BEEN DETAINED

Ahmet Sungur's son, Mahir Sungur, was taken into custody last May for firing shots into the air. It was claimed that AKP Kırıkkale Deputy Mustafa Kaplan intervened for Mahir Sungur and made attempts to secure his release. Mahir Sungur was released after his statement was taken.

THE PREVIOUS MAYOR HAD ALSO BEEN ARRESTED

The previous mayor of the Yahşihan district, Osman Türkyılmaz of the MHP, had been arrested along with four of his associates. The detention of AKP's Ahmet Sungur, who announced upon taking office that there was approximately 1 billion lira in public loss, has brought the allegations in the district back to the agenda.

WHO IS AHMET SUNGUR?

AKP's Kırıkkale Yahşihan Mayor Ahmet Sungur was born in Kırıkkale in 1971. After completing his primary and secondary education, he graduated from the Kırıkkale Industrial Vocational High School, Department of Electronic Automation. He then graduated from the Kırıkkale Vocational School, Department of Industrial Automation. Sungur, who began his civil service career at the Yahşihan Municipality in 1989, later worked as an Electrical Technician at the Rural Services (Köy Hizmetleri). Married and a father of three, Ahmet Sungur was elected as the Mayor of Yahşihan in the 2009 and 2014 local elections.
