Halis Bayancuk, the leader of the Tevhid and Sünnet community, and Haris Karadağ, one of the prominent figures of the community, were referred to the courthouse after being detained following the armed attack that took place in the Balçova district of İzmir on September 8, which resulted in the deaths of 3 police officers and left 2 people, including 1 police officer, injured. Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the police procedures for Bayancuk and Karadağ, who were detained in relation to the attack carried out by 16-year-old Eren Bigül with a pump-action shotgun, have been completed.
Following their interrogation by the prosecutor, Bayancuk and Karadağ were brought before the court with a request for arrest; however, the judge issued a release decision with a travel ban, based on "clear findings that there was no connection" to the incident.
