Basri Bağcı becomes Deputy President of the Constitutional Court (Who is Basri Bağcı?)

The election marathon in the high judiciary continues.

Following the election held on March 21 due to the expiration of Constitutional Court (AYM) President Zühtü Arslan's term on April 20, Kadir Özkaya, who was serving as deputy president, was elected as the new president of the High Court.

BAĞCI SECURED AN ABSOLUTE MAJORITY

According to the information obtained, an election was held in the AYM General Assembly for the deputy presidency position vacated by Özkaya. Basri Bağcı received 9 votes, securing an absolute majority, and became the Deputy President of the Constitutional Court.

WHO IS BASRİ BAĞCI?

Basri Bağcı was born in 1967 in the Elmadağ district of Ankara and graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1988.

Bağcı began his career in 1989 as an Ankara judicial judge candidate. He served as a public prosecutor in Gürün (Sivas), Pervari (Siirt), and Hüyük (Konya), respectively. After serving as a justice inspector and chief justice inspector at the Ministry of Justice Inspection Board and holding various other positions, he was elected as a member of the Court of Cassation in 2017.

Bağcı was elected as a member of the Constitutional Court on April 2, 2020, and assumed his duties on April 6, 2020.
