Constitutional Court ruling on YENİ Party: 30-day defense period granted regarding name application

The Constitutional Court (AYM) addressed the application regarding the name and emblem of the YENİ Party on its General Assembly agenda. As part of its review into whether the party's name violates the Law on Political Parties No. 2820, the High Court decided to request an opinion from the YENİ Party.

According to the decision, the YENİ Party has been granted 30 days to submit its opinion regarding the request for the "invalidation of its name and emblem and their removal from the political parties registry."

The process began after the YENİ Party was founded, when the Innovation Party (Yenilik Partisi) applied to the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor on the grounds that the party names were similar. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had notified the YENİ Party to change its name due to claims of "confusion" and had granted a deadline until September 18.

Upon the failure to change the name, the file was sent to the Constitutional Court by the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor. The latest decision by the Constitutional Court means that the party's defense will be heard before the final review.
