In Istanbul, Ömer G., who had final prison sentences for various crimes including child sexual abuse and had been on the run for 12 years, has been captured. The convict, who was reported to be wanted by Interpol with a Red Notice, was taken into custody during an operation conducted by the Istanbul Police Department's Public Security Branch in Büyükçekmece.
According to the information obtained, Ömer G. had criminal records linked to two separate incidents of child sexual abuse that occurred between 2007 and 2017. Ömer G., who entered Silivri Prison in 2011, escaped from the Kırklareli Open Prison where he had been transferred in 2014. A wanted record was created for him after that date.
It was determined that after his escape, Ömer G. went off the radar and was involved in another child sexual abuse crime in Küçükçekmece in 2017, and that he used someone else's identity information at the time he was caught. It was determined that the convict later went abroad, passing illegally first to Greece and then to Germany.
THE ESCAPE ENDED IN BÜYÜKÇEKMECE
According to information reached by the police, Ömer G. went to Germany in 2019 and applied for asylum there. It was stated that the convict's application was rejected, that he escaped from the refugee camp where he was staying, and that he returned to Turkey illegally via Greece in 2023.
Examinations revealed that Ömer G. had a total of 6 years of final prison sentences for two different counts of child sexual abuse, using others' identity information, and escaping from prison. It was also determined that an Interpol Red Notice had been issued for Ömer G. in connection with sexual crimes.
The Istanbul Police Department's Public Security Branch, Wanted Persons Bureau, determined as a result of their work that Ömer G. was in Büyükçekmece. The convict, who was captured in an operation held on October 21, was referred to judicial authorities after his procedures at the police station.
