Court of Cassation requests upholding of sentences in Narin Güran murder case

In the Narin Güran murder case, which was concluded by the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court on December 28, 2024, and subsequently approved by the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice, the notification prepared by the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation requests that the sentences be upheld. In the trial regarding the death of 8-year-old Narin Güran, her mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity." Additionally, Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime."

The notification stated that the legal classification of Bahtiyar's crime was correctly determined and that the appeals regarding the charge of "intentional killing of a child" should be rejected. It was further stated that the sentences given to the mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran were in accordance with the law.

It was emphasized that the objections raised by the defense attorneys, claiming that "the investigation was not conducted effectively," "the cause of Narin Güran's death could not be determined," and "the conviction decision was not based on concrete grounds," were unfounded. The notification has been sent to the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation for a final decision.
