A verdict has been reached in the non-pecuniary damages lawsuit filed against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel regarding allegations he made about the assets of Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek during his tenure as CHP Chairman.
The Istanbul 3rd Civil Court of First Instance partially accepted the lawsuit filed by Gürlek and ordered Özel to pay 750 thousand liras in non-pecuniary damages. The 1 million 100 thousand lira lawsuit filed by Özel against Gürlek was rejected.
The legal process began after Özel shared title deed ID numbers for 16 properties he claimed belonged to Gürlek during statements made on March 17 and 24. Özel had stated that the numbers in question could be queried through official records and requested that the allegations be investigated.
Minister Gürlek, arguing that the statements violated his personal rights, applied to the court with a demand for 1 million liras in non-pecuniary damages. In Gürlek's petition, it was claimed that the allegations regarding his assets were untrue and aimed to create a negative perception of him in the public eye.
Özel had also filed a countersuit, stating that his personal rights were violated due to Gürlek's statements about him. In the second hearing, the court decided to reject Özel's countersuit.
