Cybercrime operation in 36 provinces: 826 suspects apprehended, 444 arrested

The Ministry of Interior announced that 826 suspects were apprehended in cybercrime operations conducted in 36 provinces under the coordination of the General Directorate of Security and MASAK. It was reported that the operations were carried out over the last 5 days targeting illegal betting, online child obscenity and harassment, qualified fraud, and money laundering.

According to the ministry's statement, 444 of the suspects referred to the courthouse were arrested, while judicial control measures were applied to 254 individuals. It was stated that proceedings regarding the other suspects are ongoing.

It was noted that the efforts were carried out in a coordinated manner by the General Directorate of Security's Cybercrime Combat Department, MASAK, offices of the Chief Public Prosecutor, and the cybercrime units of provincial police departments.

The statement alleged that the suspects facilitated illegal betting and gambling, acted as intermediaries for money transfers on illegal betting sites, advertised these sites, and gained unauthorized access to the mobile banking and gaming accounts of some citizens.

The ministry also reported that allegations regarding some suspects possessing obscene images of children and committing fraud via social media platforms were also evaluated within the scope of the operation.
