The detention review conducted as part of the investigation into journalist Selahattin Günday has been completed. As a result of the review, it was decided that Günday will remain in prison.
Günday was taken into custody on September 10 and arrested on September 12 as part of a reopened investigation into the death of former MİT official Kaşif Kozinoğlu, who passed away in Silivri Prison in 2011.
It was stated that the investigation was being conducted in connection with footage taken while Kozinoğlu was being brought to the courthouse. Günday had been charged with "disclosing information and documents related to intelligence activities" and "unlawfully obtaining or disseminating personal data."
Günday's lawyers argued that the footage in question was not filmed by their client; they had appealed the arrest decision, stating that the date of the alleged act was incorrect and that the statute of limitations had expired.
Following the appeal process, a second arrest warrant was issued for Günday on charges of "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime." The lawyers stated that Günday had not been questioned regarding this charge and that there was no concrete evidence in the file regarding the existence of such an organization or their client's position within it.
With the decision rendered in the latest detention review, it was ruled that Günday will remain in prison.
