Eren Üner summoned for testimony again. Lawyer makes statement: We want to testify to the prosecutor

Eren Üner, a History student at Istanbul University, had stated that he was subjected to mistreatment by police while in custody, and his social media post regarding the incident was viewed by millions of people.

Following this statement, the General Directorate of Security denied Üner's allegations and announced that they would file a criminal complaint against him for the crime of "unlawfully obtaining and disseminating personal data."

LAWYER: "WE WANT TO TESTIFY DIRECTLY TO THE PROSECUTOR"

A new development has occurred following the security directorate's announcement of a criminal complaint.

In a statement to Ufuk Sepetçi from Cumhuriyet, Üner's lawyer explained that his client is currently not in custody and that they have refused to provide a statement at the Istanbul Police Department's Cyber Crimes Branch due to the previous mistreatment he experienced there.

The lawyer said, "My client is not in custody. However, the Cyber Crimes Branch wants to summon him for a statement. Because he was previously subjected to torture in that same unit, we do not want him to provide a statement in that environment. For this reason, we want to testify directly to the prosecutor. Our efforts in this direction are ongoing."

University students also gathered to show their support for Üner. The students, who assembled in front of the main gate of Istanbul University, chanted slogans such as "Eren Üner is not alone," stated that Üner was being targeted for speaking out against rights violations, and called for solidarity.
