Ergün Poyraz remains in custody: Prosecutor's request for release denied
Author Ergün Poyraz remains in custody for sharing a photograph of Özlem Çerçioğlu's home. The prosecutor requested his release due to health issues, but the court did not accept the request.
Ergün Poyraz was arrested after sharing a photograph of the home of Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu on social media. He was unable to attend the first hearing held at the Aydın 5th Criminal Court of First Instance due to health problems. It was reported that while Poyraz was receiving treatment at Aydın State Hospital, he was transferred to İzmir for further examination.
Poyraz's lawyer, Hüseyin Buzoğlu, stated that his client's health condition is serious and requested his release. The prosecutor also recommended his release under judicial control, taking into account Poyraz's health status and the time he has spent in custody. However, the court decided to continue his detention, citing the current state of evidence and the fact that Poyraz's defense statement has not yet been taken.
Lawyer Buzoğlu drew attention to the severity of Poyraz's health condition, stating, "Doctors have indicated that there is a risk of his foot being amputated and that he could lose consciousness. Despite being transferred to İzmir, ideal conditions for his treatment are not being provided." He also expressed that their requests regarding the inability to take Poyraz's defense statement were not taken into account by the court.
Buzoğlu argued that Poyraz's detention is a continuation of a political vendetta, saying, "This situation shows that the stance of past political alliances against Poyraz continues."
