The Ministry of Interior has announced that Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu has been suspended from office as a temporary measure following his arrest.
The Ministry of Interior has announced that Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu has been suspended from office. It was reported that the decision was taken following Beşikçioğlu's arrest as part of an investigation conducted by the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the Etimesgut Municipality.
It was stated that 40 suspects, including Beşikçioğlu, have been arrested as part of the investigation. The Ministry's statement noted that an investigation is being conducted into Beşikçioğlu for the crimes of "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," "rigging the performance of an act," "rigging public tenders," "extortion by coercion," "embezzlement," and "bribery."

The statement indicated that the arrest warrant was issued by the Ankara West 2nd Criminal Court of Peace on 02.08.2026, with decision number 2026/744.
The Ministry of Interior announced that the suspension was implemented as a "temporary measure" in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.
