First post from Feyza Altun after the verdict: 'Turkey is secular, will remain secular'
Lawyer Feyza Altun, who was detained in recent months over a 'sharia' post on her social media account and released after giving her statement, has been acquitted in the case regarding insulting the president. Feyza Altun shared a post on social media following the decision.
In her post, which included a photo taken in front of a sign reading "The Republic is the form of government most suitable for the character of the Turkish Nation" by Atatürk, Altun stated the following:
“A female prosecutor, who would not be able to sit in the prosecutor's chair if it weren't for the secular Republic of Turkey, requested that I be sentenced to the maximum penalty. Because I did not express remorse, the deferment of the announcement of the verdict (HAGB) was skipped and I was given a 9-month prison sentence. Turkey IS SECULAR, WILL REMAIN SECULAR
