Two Greek Cypriot companies operating in the Republic of Cyprus have filed a lawsuit regarding property claims over a factory and land in the Gazimağusa region of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), where PepsiCo products are reportedly produced.
According to a report by the Greek Cypriot-based newspaper Politis, the companies Cyprofruta Limited and Cyprus Farming Company Limited, owned by Greek Cypriot businesspeople, have applied to the Nicosia District Court under the control of the Republic of Cyprus. In the lawsuit filed through the law firm G. Georgiades & Associates, 144 million 150 thousand euros are being demanded from 12 individuals and legal entities, including the US-based PepsiCo Inc.
The plaintiff companies alleged that the factory and land in the Kukla region of Gazimağusa belonged to them before 1974, that they conducted commercial activities in the area, and that the properties have been used without their permission since 1981. The lawsuit petition stated that Ektam Kıbrıs Limited produces Pepsi, Pepsi Max, 7Up, and Mirinda branded beverages at the factory in question.
The companies requested that the factory's operations be halted, the properties be vacated and handed over to them, and their financial losses from past years be compensated. The petition demanded 9 million 150 thousand euros in rent for the period from 1981 to September 30, 2026.
Arguing that they were deprived of the use of the properties and commercial earnings for the same period, the plaintiffs also demanded 135 million euros in compensation. It was reported that the calculation was based on an annual rental value of 200 thousand euros for the properties and an annual loss of 3 million euros from commercial activities over 45 years.
The report noted that the plaintiff companies sent a formal notice to the defendants through their lawyers on February 10, 2026, demanding an end to the use of the factory and land, the handover of the properties, and the payment of compensation. There is currently no court ruling regarding these property and compensation claims.
