He let third parties use his IBAN: Now facing a 30-month sentence

Nejat Yazıcı, a 30-year-old living in the Gebze district of Kocaeli, stated that he is facing 97 separate case files after allowing third parties to use his bank accounts, which were subsequently used in fraud incidents.

Explaining that he spent approximately 30 months in prison, Yazıcı recounted that with his family's support, they have been trying to compensate the victims for their losses and have spent approximately 4 million lira during this process. Yazıcı issued a warning, especially to young people, saying, “They should absolutely not share their accounts or IBANs with third parties.”

IT STARTED WITH PEOPLE HE MET ON SOCIAL MEDIA

According to Yazıcı, the process began in 2022 with a job advertisement he saw on social media. Stating that he spoke for a while with people who claimed to be involved in e-commerce, Yazıcı said he accepted the offer due to his debts and handed over his bank accounts to these individuals in person in Istanbul on July 1, 2022.

Expressing that he was promised payment but never received it, Yazıcı stated that he went to the banks on July 22 to close his accounts. He later learned that his account was blocked as part of a fraud investigation when he tried to withdraw his disability pension.

Claiming that his accounts were used in numerous fraud transactions within 17 days, Yazıcı said, “My accounts were used in a fraud scheme. I filed a criminal complaint against these individuals. Then, over time, lawsuits began to be filed in my name.”

Stating that there are 97 lawsuits against him, Yazıcı noted that in some files the trial has not yet begun, while in others the process is ongoing. Yazıcı said that in 11 of the 17 concluded files, a reversal decision was given at the execution stage, and in 6 files, a rejection decision was issued, noting that his sentence was reduced from nearly 45 years to 17 years.

I don't even know what to do. I have a loss of approximately 4 million lira in this process. I covered the losses of all the victims with my family's support. My sister took out a loan, my father took out a loan. I am a victim. I don't want to go back to prison.

— Nejat Yazıcı

Stating that he is asking for help from government officials, Yazıcı warned citizens not to share their bank accounts and IBAN information with third parties, saying, “I have been burned, let no one else be burned.”

Nejat Yazıcı’s father, Bülent Yazıcı, also said that his son spent nearly 3 years in prison and that as a family, they have been trying to pay for the losses of victims across Turkey. Father Yazıcı stated that they have fallen into significant debt due to legal fees and loans, and requested that more effective measures be taken against fraud networks.
