Independent Turkey Party (BTP) Chairman Hüseyin Baş visited Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, who has been detained for 154 days, and stated that Çalık's health condition is not suitable for prison conditions. Baş expressed that he finds the process unacceptable both in terms of conscience and law.
Independent Turkey Party (BTP) Chairman Hüseyin Baş visited Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, who is being held at Kırıklar Prison in Buca, İzmir. Speaking to the press after the visit, Baş stated that Çalık's health condition is not suitable for prison conditions and that the detention appears to be a form of political punishment.
ÇALIK'S HEALTH CONDITION IS CONCERNING
Hüseyin Baş noted that while Çalık's morale is high, his health problems are serious. Referring to the Forensic Medicine report, he reminded that Çalık had previously undergone cancer treatment and that there is a possibility of recurrence. Baş said, "A person's morale may be high, but that does not mean they are healthy."
Emphasizing that it is the 154th day of Çalık's detention, Baş stated, "This process is neither acceptable in terms of conscience nor law." Baş expressed his belief that Çalık is innocent and that there is no suspicion of flight risk or tampering with evidence.
DECISIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW ARE EXPECTED
Hüseyin Baş emphasized that actions must be taken in accordance with the fundamental principles of law, stating, "We are not begging for conscience or mercy from anyone; we are only expecting the requirements of the law to be fulfilled." Reiterating that Çalık's health condition is not suitable for prison conditions, Baş said that even though the Forensic Medicine report states that Çalık can remain in prison, this situation is unacceptable in terms of conscience.
Baş stated that Çalık's faith and resilience are high, adding, "This process is perceived as a political punishment. Hopefully, this situation will be corrected and return to normal." He expressed that despite his health problems, Çalık's morale is high and he believes he will overcome this process with minimal damage.
