As part of an investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that the identity information of vehicles damaged beyond repair due to earthquakes, fires, or traffic accidents was used on other vehicles.
During the work carried out by the teams of the Auto Theft Bureau of the Ankara Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch, it was determined that the engine and chassis numbers of some vehicles of different makes and models had been tampered with using chemical liquids.

ALLEGATION OF IDENTITY ALTERATION IN 11 VEHICLES
According to the findings of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspects matched vehicles of the same make and model and used the records belonging to heavily damaged vehicles on other automobiles. It was assessed that a total of 11 vehicles, including 5 vehicles that were subject to seizure or liens and 6 vehicles brought to Turkey from abroad, had been subjected to "VIN switching" (change) procedures using this method.
In the investigation, it was determined that the real identity information of the vehicles was erased or changed, and that the engine and chassis information belonging to heavily damaged vehicles was adapted to other vehicles. It was noted that the chemical intervention was performed specifically on the sections where the numbers are located.

Upon the instruction of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, simultaneous operations were carried out in Ankara, as well as in Istanbul, Denizli, Afyonkarahisar, Manisa, Edirne, Amasya, Kocaeli, and Ağrı.
Within the scope of the operation, 11 of the 17 suspects for whom arrest warrants were issued were detained. It was reported that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the 6 suspects who could not be found at their addresses.
