Investigation deepens into the death of Halit Yukay... Ship captain arrested: 17 minutes full of mystery!
The investigation into the death of Halit Yukay, who went missing while traveling from Yalova to Bozcaada, continues. The captain of the dry cargo ship involved in the incident has been arrested.
The boat of businessman Halit Yukay, who set off from Yalova towards Bozcaada, was found in pieces. The investigation into the death of Yukay, whose lifeless body was reached 19 days later at a depth of 68 meters, is ongoing. In connection with the incident, the captain of the dry cargo ship named 'Arel 7', Cemal Tokatlıoğlu, has been arrested.
TRACES ON THE SHIP AND THE ARREST OF THE CAPTAIN
Coast Guard teams detected friction marks on the front part of the 'Arel 7' ship. These marks matched the traces found on Halit Yukay's boat. The Yalova Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has begun examining the ship's route and the vessel traffic in the area. Ship captain Cemal Tokatlıoğlu was arrested after being detained on charges of "causing death by negligence."
TECHNICAL EXAMINATIONS AND THE LAWYER'S STATEMENTS
The 'black box' from Halit Yukay's boat has been sent abroad for examination. Lawyer Nuri Koray Kurun stated, "Halit Yukay's phone signal was cut off at 17.09. The dry cargo ship passed through the scene around 17.25." Kurun noted that the ship's movement logs should be examined according to the UTC time zone. He also emphasized that a chemical analysis of the ship and boat paints must be conducted.
Within the scope of the investigation, the statements of the ship's crew were also taken. It is alleged that Captain Tokatlıoğlu left his post during the accident by engaging the 'autopilot' system.
