The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Ahmet Davutoğlu, the leader of the now-dissolved Future Party (Gelecek Partisi), on charges of "insulting the President."

In its statement, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office noted that an ex officio investigation was initiated following social media posts containing statements deemed to be insulting to the President.

As a result of the examination conducted, an investigation has been launched into Ahmet Davutoğlu, the leader of the dissolved Future Party, within the scope of the crime of 'Insulting the President' as regulated under Article 299/1 of the Turkish Penal Code. It has been learned that Davutoğlu will provide his testimony as a "suspect" at the Ankara Courthouse on Monday, September 7.

It was reported that in the speech subject to the investigation, Davutoğlu used the following expressions:

They added billions to their billions, ate forbidden morsels, and enriched their circles. He made his son-in-law a minister, enriched his relatives, and handed Turkey over to 5 contractors.

— Ahmet Davutoğlu

The Future Party had decided to cease its political activities and dissolve the party at an extraordinary congress held on August 22. Davutoğlu had previously announced on July 29 that they had decided to terminate the political activities of the party he founded.
