Investigation into the body found in a deep freezer in Kırıkkale

New details have emerged in the investigation into the discovery of the body of Hüseyin Okumuşoğlu, who went missing in 2014, inside a deep freezer and refrigerator in an apartment years later in Kırıkkale. While approximately 7 million pieces of data were examined within the scope of the file, 17 suspects were taken into custody following technical and physical surveillance.

The incident came to light on May 16, 2025, when the landlord, C.Ç., who had come to Kırıkkale from Antalya due to unpaid rent, entered the apartment with the help of a locksmith. During the inspection of the house, a human body cut into 7 pieces was found in the deep freezer and refrigerator. Police examinations determined that the body belonged to Hüseyin Okumuşoğlu, for whom his family had filed a missing person report on September 3, 2014.

THE PERIOD BEFORE HE WENT MISSING IS UNDER SCRUTINY

According to the investigation file, a fire broke out in Okumuşoğlu's home in Keçiören, Ankara, approximately 40 days before he went missing. It was stated that Okumuşoğlu, who was injured in his foot during the fire, told those around him that he had been drugged by a person or persons wearing chadors who came to the house under the pretext of collecting aid, that approximately 120 thousand liras of his money had been taken, and that the house had been set on fire. However, it was noted that in his statement to the police, he said the fire started because he fell asleep while smoking.

In the HTS examination, it was determined that Meliha Veske, who is considered among the suspects of the investigation, gave a signal from the base station in the area where Okumuşoğlu's house is located approximately 10 minutes before the fire.

It was determined that Okumuşoğlu returned to his duty at a public institution in Ankara on September 1, 2014, took a 16-day leave on the same day, and rented a white Nissan brand vehicle from a company in Kavaklıdere, Ankara. It was recorded that after speaking with his wife in Kırıkkale by phone that same night, he traveled from Yahşihan toward Ankara in the rental car, his phone went off after a while, and he was never heard from again.

It was stated that the rental vehicle, which was not returned, was found in Keçiören, Ankara, approximately 5.5 months later and towed to a parking lot.

RENTING OF THE HOUSE AND INVOICES EXAMINED

The renting of the apartment where the body was found, close to the dates when Okumuşoğlu went missing, became one of the critical topics of the investigation. According to the records in the file, the apartment was rented furnished by Meliha Veske through a real estate agent on September 2, 2014.

In the declarations in the investigation file, it was alleged that Veske had a close relationship with the Okumuşoğlu family spanning many years, and that Okumuşoğlu had also made attempts to get his money and gold back before he went missing.

Since it was assessed that the body was kept frozen for a long time, the electricity bills of the apartment were also investigated. In the examination, it was determined that the electricity subscription remained registered in the name of the former landlord, and the bills were largely paid by I.D. via the internet starting from 2014. In his statement, I.D. explained that Meliha Veske told him that students were staying in the house, and that the bill amounts were sent to him through Veske's nephew, Yaşar Gökduman.

EXAMINATION OF 7 MILLION DATA POINTS

Following the establishment of the Department for Investigating Unsolved Crimes within the General Directorate of Criminal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, the file was handled comprehensively again. During this process, records consisting of approximately 7 million data points were obtained from the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK).

Using the Cell-ID method, the coverage areas of the base stations around the house where the body was found were narrowed down. In the studies, it was determined that some individuals were in the coverage area of the base stations near the house during certain periods. Within the scope of the file, the statements of a total of 98 people were taken in the capacity of suspect, complainant, and person with knowledge; the HTS records of 43 people were examined, and official correspondence was made with 112 institutions and organizations.

The investigative authorities assessed that more than one person might have had knowledge, contribution, or participation in the processes of renting the house, transporting and storing the body, continuing electricity and rent payments, and concealing evidence.

Following the work carried out by the teams of the Provincial Police Department Public Security Branch under the instruction of the Kırıkkale Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was decided to take action against 17 people, excluding the deceased suspects. 17 suspects were caught and taken into custody in simultaneous operations organized by the Murder Bureau teams.
