Nasuh Mahruki, former president of the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), had announced that a detention warrant was issued for him, stating, “Police officers, who said there were 7-8 of them in plain clothes, came to my house and said they were there to take me. I am now leaving the restaurant and heading home.” The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Press Crimes Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into Nasuh Mahruki for “publicly disseminating misleading information” and “publicly insulting judicial bodies” due to expressions used in his social media posts. Journalist Nasuh Bektaş, a close friend of Mahruki, spoke to 12punto and stated that proceedings for Mahruki are ongoing at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan.

“HE WAS ALSO FORCED TO RESIGN FROM AKUT UNDER PRESSURE”

Explaining the grounds for Mahruki's detention, Bektaş said, “An arrest warrant was issued immediately following Mahruki's social media post. The grounds for issuing the arrest warrant are: the crime of inciting the public to hatred and enmity or insulting them. Then the police went to his house. Since he was not at home at that moment, they could not detain him. After receiving the news, his lawyer went to the courthouse. He also went to the Çağlayan Courthouse after speaking with his lawyer. His proceedings are currently ongoing there. He was also forced to resign from AKUT under pressure from the AKP; they threatened him with his volunteers back then as well.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

Supreme Election Council (YSK) Chairman Ahmet Yener made a statement saying, “Change, development, and technology are now being used at the highest level in the world. We have completed all our preparations regarding the electronic voting system. The decision rests with the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.” Subsequently, Cem Nuri Aldaş, Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of Computer Engineers of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), shared a post stating, “We demand authorization to audit the created system on behalf of the public.” Nasuh Mahruki, former president of the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), also joined the polemic, stating on his social media account, “The Chamber of Computer Engineers must definitely have the authority to audit on your behalf in an early presidential election. If they are not audited, they will steal our votes, replace them with fake ones, and win the election illegally again.” Following his post, Mahruki announced that a detention warrant had been issued for him.
