On October 6, a letter sent by Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor İsmail Uçar to the HSK was reported in the media through an exclusive report by BirGün's Timur Soykan. Furthermore, an access ban was imposed on Soykan's report. Chief Public Prosecutor İsmail Uçar reported the bribery ring within the judiciary to the HSK in a 4-page letter. Following this letter, the HSK assigned three inspectors to the Istanbul Anatolian Courthouse to investigate the incidents mentioned in the letter.

Lawyer Ebru Saat made evaluations for 12punto.com.tr regarding the bribery incident currently under investigation at the Istanbul Anatolian Courthouse.

"IT LEADS TO PEOPLE'S DISTRUST"

Stating that the bribery incident would shake trust in the law, Saat said, "The shaking of trust in the law in a country causes people to be unable to express themselves freely. This leads to people's distrust in every area of society."

Saat stated that a new investigation should be conducted regarding the issue mentioned by the Chief Public Prosecutor because this letter constitutes a formal denunciation, adding, "A new investigation must be conducted regarding this reported incident, and this investigation must be evaluated objectively."

WHAT MATTERS IS TO BE JUST AND FAIR

Drawing attention to education to solve the corruption in the justice system, Saat stated the following:

"Starting from law schools, legal ethics, professional priority, and the requirements of the profession must be emphasized and taught. Knowing the law does not just mean being a good judge, a good lawyer, or a good prosecutor; what matters is to be just and fair. I do not think that corruption in justice will be fixed by changing the staff; to stop this, both legal professionals and people from other professions must be trained in line with ethical values."
