Manavgat Mayor arrested

Manavgat Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara and Deputy Mayor Mehmet Engin Tüter, who were detained in an operation targeting the Manavgat Municipality on charges of "bribery, extortion, and embezzlement," have been arrested.

The questioning of Mayor Kara and Deputy Mayor Tüter by the prosecutor's office has been completed after they were referred to the courthouse as part of an investigation launched by the Manavgat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations of bribery regarding hotel renovations, construction permits, and occupancy permit applications.

Kara and Tüter were arrested by the criminal judgeship of peace to which they were referred.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In Antalya, 34 people, including Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara and deputy mayors, were detained on July 4 as part of a "bribery, extortion, and embezzlement" operation targeting the Manavgat Municipality. On July 7, Municipal Council member Mehmet Tosak and businessmen Mesut Kara, İlker Günay, Mehmet Ali Fansa, Kemal Taş, and Şükrü Ilgın, who were brought to the prosecutor's office and referred to the court with a request for arrest, were remanded in custody. 

The 25 suspects, including CHP Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara, whose statements were completed at the Antalya Police Department, were referred to the Manavgat Courthouse in the morning after four days of processing. 

STATEMENT FROM ÖZEL

Responding to questions about the agenda during a live broadcast on Halk TV, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had stated regarding the bribery investigation into the Manavgat Municipality: "I have assigned two investigators. There is some information. It is not encouraging. If something like that has happened, we will not wait for the court or anything else; we will immediately sever any connection or involvement with the Republican People's Party."
