Minister Tunç's response to Özgür Özel on 'judicial crisis': 'There is no coup'

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made statements to members of the press in Ankara regarding the 'judicial crisis'.

Addressing the Court of Cassation 3rd Criminal Chamber's refusal to recognize the Constitutional Court's (AYM) decision, Tunç stated, "Our Court of Cassation says, 'Due to the Constitutional Court's different application following the last few decisions, Articles 14 and 83 of the Constitution have become inapplicable through interpretation. Therefore, there is a violation of the Constitution.' There is a difference of opinion between the two high courts here. There is no point in taking this to different places based on this difference of opinion," he said.

HE CRITICIZED ÖZGÜR ÖZEL!

Criticizing CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Tunç said, "Especially the newly elected Chairman of the CHP, we served together in Parliament, we worked in commissions, and I even did my military service in the same place as Mr. Özgür. Therefore, I know him very well. With this excitement, he has used inappropriate expressions, especially towards our President. These are irresponsible statements," he spoke.

"THERE IS NO COUP"

Tunç continued his words as follows:

"We absolutely do not agree with the interpretation that our President is staging a coup. There is no coup here; this nation knows very well what a coup is.

Here, all matters regarding the removal of the difference of opinion between the two high courts, especially if there is ambiguity in the law, regarding the AYM's individual application law, its working procedures, and the AYM's establishment law, are matters within the authority of the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey). These are matters that will be resolved by discussing them on legal grounds."
