Minister Tunç's statement on the Constitutional Court and 'nepotism': 'We reject the allegations of nepotism'

 Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç answered journalists' questions at the Turkish Civil Code Workshop held on the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

"WE REJECT THE ALLEGATIONS OF NEPOTISM"

Speaking for the first time after Deputy Minister of Justice Ramazan Can's nepotism-related messages were caught on camera during the Justice Academy program held at the Court of Cassation building, Tunç said the following:

"We have seen what was reflected in the press regarding our Deputy Minister. We have only one criterion, and that is merit. Requests come in, including from the opposition. Therefore, it is the commissions that will evaluate these. This is our goal. There may be references, but when requests are evaluated, the person's merit is considered. We reject the allegations of nepotism."

"IT IS UP TO THEM"

Evaluating the Court of Cassation's second refusal to recognize the rights violation ruling issued by the Constitutional Court (AYM) regarding the second application made by TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay, Tunç said, "This has been discussed for a long time. Following the decision made by the AYM, the Court of Cassation ruled that the AYM decision had become inapplicable. Crimes against the constitutional order are outside the scope of immunity. A difference of opinion has emerged between the two high courts. As for the process from here on, it is up to the relevant parties whether they file an application or not. There is a finalized judgment in question. We will all see the process ahead together," he said. 

Minister Tunç also commented on the detention of Israeli foreign intelligence operatives, stating that there were 34 detentions, that statements were being taken, and that arrest warrants had been issued for 12 individuals.
