The Constitutional Court (AYM) will take the application regarding the name and emblem of the Yeni Parti onto the General Assembly agenda on October 21. The file will evaluate the request for the party's name and emblem to be declared void and for it to be removed from the political parties registry.
At the core of the application lies the claim that there is a name similarity between the Yeni Parti and the Yenilik Partisi. The High Court will examine whether the name "Yeni Parti" is in violation of the Law on Political Parties No. 2820.
The process began with an application made by the Yenilik Partisi to the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor following the establishment of the Yeni Parti. The Yenilik Partisi argued that the names of the two parties were similar to a degree that could cause confusion.
Due to the possibility of confusion, referred to as "iltibas" (confusion/similarity), the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office notified the Yeni Parti to change its name and granted it until September 18. However, as no name change was made within this period, the file was moved to the Constitutional Court.
The Constitutional Court addressed the file at its General Assembly meeting on September 29 and granted the Yeni Parti one month to submit its defense. Following the party's submission of its defense to the court, the application was placed back on the General Assembly agenda.
The assessment to be made by the High Court will be decisive regarding whether the Yeni Parti can remain in the political parties registry with its current name and emblem.
