New development in the Halil Falyalı murder case: Decision to appoint a lawyer from the Bar Association

The trial of 7 defendants regarding the murder of casino operator Halil Falyalı and his driver Murat Demirtaş in the TRNC continued.

Some of the detained defendants, including Mehmet Faysal Söylemez and Mustafa Söylemez, connected to the hearing held at the Istanbul 36th High Criminal Court via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS). Detained defendant Abdurrahim Çelik was present in the courtroom along with the lawyers for the parties.

"MY IDENTITY WAS STOLEN"

Making his defense on the merits during the hearing, defendant Abdurrahim Çelik said, ''I did not connect anyone or establish communication. I did not send messages to anyone. In all my defenses, the discretion lies with the court. My identity was stolen in this tragic event, and I apologize for this. I had filed a complaint regarding my lost identity, but it did not surface. I request that the points in my favor be taken into consideration.''

Detained defendant Ender Yıldız stated that he had some requests but had not been able to meet with his lawyer, and requested additional time from the court.

DECISION TO APPOINT A LAWYER

Announcing its interim decision, the court ruled that a lawyer be appointed from the Bar Association for the next session due to the Söylemez brothers' lawyers failing to attend the hearing without providing an excuse, and adjourned the hearing.
