A new development has occurred in the case opened within the scope of the cooperative investigation into İZBETON, a subsidiary of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. The trial of the defendants, including former İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, former CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Şenol Aslanoğlu, and former İZBETON General Manager Heval Savaş Kaya, continued.
While Tunç Soyer continued his defense during the hearing, the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality's request to join the case drew attention. It was reported that while the municipality had previously sent an official letter stating, "Our municipality has suffered no public loss," it has now requested to intervene on the grounds of a "possibility of public loss."
According to reports, this new stance by the municipality came after the process in which it was claimed that Cemil Tugay had shifted toward the AKP. According to Soyer's lawyer, Murat Aydın, the municipality had not previously intervened in the case.
SOYER: THERE IS NO CONCRETE EVIDENCE
It was reported that the presiding judge changed again before the hearing, marking the fourth change of presiding judge during the trial process. Tunç Soyer, whose detention continues due to two separate files parallel to this case, stated in his defense that there is no concrete evidence regarding the accusations against him.
“How can it be fair to keep someone in solitary confinement for 16 months for disgraceful crimes such as qualified fraud and embezzlement without a single piece of concrete evidence? In 15.5 months, there has been no concrete proof regarding me.”
Soyer stated that he did not attend the detention reviews and argued that the grounds for his continued detention could not be explained. The course of the trial and the municipality's request to intervene were among the topics to be followed in the subsequent stages of the case.
