New indictment prepared against Murat Ongun

A new indictment has been prepared against Murat Ongun, who is being tried while in custody on charges of "managing an organization" within the scope of the IMM (İBB) case, citing YouTube broadcasts he made from prison and posts he shared on X (formerly Twitter) as grounds. This indictment, prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has been sent to the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance.

The file prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office focused specifically on statements made on Ongun's social media accounts on December 30, 2025, and January 1, 2026. The prosecution alleged that these posts contained information that did not reflect the truth and would lead to a false perception in the public eye regarding the IMM investigation.

In his defense, Ongun stated that his broadcasts were not of a nature to mislead the public, noting that some of the information in his posts originated from statements already provided to security units within the scope of the investigation.

In the indictment, the prosecution argued that the statements made regarding the investigation, which closely concerns the public agenda, threaten public peace and carry the element of publicity for the crime. Furthermore, a prison sentence was requested on the grounds that Ongun committed the crime of "Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information via Press and Publication" in a chain manner.
