No verdict yet in the Çorlu Train Accident trial! Tekirdağ Bar Association President Gürcün: “We are disappointed!”
No verdict was reached in the 19th hearing of the trial regarding the train accident that occurred in Çorlu, Tekirdağ, on July 8, 2018, which claimed the lives of 25 people, 7 of whom were children. The final hearing of the case, which was being held at the Çorlu 1st High Criminal Court, has been adjourned until April 25, 2024.
Evaluating the decision for 12punto writer Şenol Çarık, Tekirdağ Bar Association President Attorney Egemen Gürcün said, “We are disappointed, along with the families who are waiting for justice.” Gürcün emphasized that, despite everything, they have full faith that the trial will be concluded fairly and that the defendants will receive the maximum possible sentences.
Gürcün described what happened at the hearing as follows:
“We gathered for the latest hearing of the Çorlu Train Accident case. However, due to a medical report submitted by one of the court judges, the hearing was adjourned until April 25. This postponement was met with a reaction from the families and lawyers.
As the Tekirdağ Bar Association, we have followed all the processes of this case. We were in the courtroom today with our colleagues as well. Unfortunately, following this decision by the court, we are disappointed, along with the families who are waiting for justice.”
“TO ENSURE JUSTICE…”
Despite all this, stating that they have full faith that the trial will be concluded fairly and that the defendants will receive the maximum possible sentences upon the verdict to be delivered on April 25, Gürcün said, “We are in solidarity with our colleagues and the families. We will be by the families' side at the hearing on April 25. We will do what is necessary to ensure that justice is served in the fairest way possible.”
The Çorlu Train Accident trial has been adjourned again.
