Operating license of TRPOS Payment Institution, subject to illegal betting investigation, revoked

The operating license of TRPOS Ödeme Kuruluşu AŞ as a payment institution has been revoked. The decision was announced via a communiqué published in the Official Gazette.

An investigation had previously been launched into the company over allegations of illegal betting and laundering of assets derived from crime. In an operation conducted across 4 provinces centered in Istanbul, 24 suspects were detained, and it was reported that efforts were ongoing to apprehend 3 other suspects.

Within the scope of the investigation, the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) was appointed as a trustee to the management of TRPOS Ödeme Kuruluşu AŞ by the decision of the Istanbul Duty Criminal Judgeship of Peace, on the grounds that it was determined the crimes were committed within the framework of the company's operations.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had announced that 245 bank and crypto accounts belonging to the suspects had been blocked. Furthermore, it was stated that a total of 57 assets, including 18 residences, 14 vehicles, 16 fields/vineyards, 7 plots of land, and 2 commercial properties, had been seized, with an estimated market value of 247 million lira.

The communiqué in the Official Gazette noted that the authorization to operate as a payment institution, granted to TRPOS by a decision dated September 29, 2023, was revoked in accordance with subparagraph (c) of the first paragraph of Article 16 of Law No. 6493.
