Optimistic response to Oğuzhan Uğur: Rezan Epözdemir will face Ersan Şen

Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir will face Ersan Şen, who is representing the defendants in the alleged column-cutting incident, in court.

The backlash against Ersan Şen, who is representing defendants accused of cutting columns in the Ezgi Apartment building where 35 people lost their lives in the Kahramanmaraş earthquake, has found a positive response following a call from digital content creator Oğuzhan Uğur for lawyer Rezan Epözdemir to "intervene in the case."

Oğuzhan Uğur, as the owner of Babala TV, had reacted to Ersan Şen by sharing a clip from a special program held in the earthquake zone on his social media account. Uğur then called on Dr. Rezan Epözdemir, the lawyer for the family of the brutally murdered Münevver Karabulut, to intervene in the case.

Uğur's post included the following statements: "This is an open call to Mr. Rezan. Dear Rezan Epözdemir, as you are aware, the Ezgi Apartment has become a symbol of many intentional grievances and negligence following the earthquake, with its unauthorized renovations, shear walls that were riddled with holes, and the officials who turned a blind eye to this. We also know that you have stood by dozens of earthquake victims during the earthquake period without demanding any payment. In order to find the fugitives who are considered guilty by institutions appointed as expert witnesses by the state and are accused of intentional homicide, and to ensure they receive the punishment they deserve, I and the families of those who lost their lives wish for you to be by our side in this case. My request to you is that you intervene in this rightful case being pursued by the families of the 36 souls who lost their lives in the Ezgi Apartment, to set a precedent for all other grievances. I am sure you will not remain silent on this situation. Sincerely."

Responding positively to Uğur's call to intervene, Epözdemir said, "Dear Oğuzhan Uğur, first of all, I congratulate you for your sensitivity and efforts on this issue. We have followed with great hope how you have touched the lives of earthquake victims during this process. We had also stated in the aid broadcasts we participated in regarding the earthquake that we would follow the legal process to the end and that we would view these cases as a social responsibility project to ensure that all perpetrators with legal responsibility are punished in a way that sets a precedent. In this context, we are currently acting as lawyers for many earthquake victim families who have lost family members, and we are representing victim families in these investigations. The Ezgi Apartment file will also be one of these cases. On this occasion, we will act as lawyers for all victim families who request it in this file as well, without any demands on our part, and we will try to be a breath of fresh air in their struggle for justice. Do not have any doubt that we will fight together for the material truth to emerge, for the public conscience to be relieved, and for justice to be served; those responsible will receive the punishment they deserve. The rule of law, not the law of the powerful, will prevail."

Uğur, quoting Epözdemir's post, stated, "I had no doubt. I thank you again and again on behalf of myself and the victim families."
