Özgür Özel concerned about Mehmet Murat Çalık's health

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was arrested as part of an investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, at the hospital where he is receiving treatment in İzmir.

During the visit, Özel was accompanied by CHP Deputy Chairman Murat Bakan and Youth Branch Chairman Cem Aydın.

In a statement following the visit, Özel noted that Çalık's health condition had deteriorated under prison conditions. Stating that Çalık had previously undergone cancer treatment twice and therefore needed to avoid stress and maintain a good diet, Özel said that prison conditions did not meet these requirements.

Stating that Çalık has lost 15 kilos and his health condition has worsened, Özel said, "He needs to be discharged and go home. The prison is not suitable for this patient."

HEALTH CONDITION AND RELEASE REQUEST

Özel stated that the examinations at the hospital have been completed and the reports are in the writing stage, expressing his hope that prosecutors will make a conscientious decision in line with these reports. "I wish I could say he looked well. Mr. Murat is a very good person. I saw him, but I did not see his health or his condition as good at all. We believe he should be released as soon as possible and that this danger must be eliminated rapidly through good care and good conditions," he said.

Özel thanked the healthcare workers and expressed his wish for everyone awaiting justice to attain it as soon as possible.
