Postponement decision in the Ferdi Zeyrek case

At the hearing held at the Manisa 5th High Criminal Court, the 10 defendants being tried on charges of "causing death and injury by negligence" were once again not present in the courtroom, while the lawyers for the plaintiffs and Ferdi Zeyrek's wife, Nurcan Zeyrek, were in attendance.

Defense attorneys argued during the hearing that their clients bore no responsibility and requested their acquittal. The court panel decided to await the arrival of an additional expert report to be prepared by Dokuz Eylül University, which is not yet in the case file. The report will include technical findings regarding the pool's electrical equipment, residual current protection, and building inspection.

The court also decided to await the reasoned decision of the higher court regarding the appeal filed against the investigation permit granted for municipal officials. The next evaluation of the file was adjourned to July 1, 2026.

Following the hearing, one of the plaintiff's lawyers, Necibe Karaoğlanlar, stated to the press that the additional expert report might bring the varying levels of responsibility of certain individuals back to the agenda. Karaoğlanlar said, "The new report will be presented to the parties at the session on July 1, and there may be objections. We expect a verdict to be reached at that session."

It was reported that detailed technical analyses regarding the electrical installation, protection systems, and building inspection will play a significant role in the expert examination to be submitted to the court in the next stage.
