Results of the third round of the Court of Cassation presidential elections announced!

The 4-year term of Mehmet Akarca, who was elected President of the Court of Cassation on March 24, 2020, expired as of yesterday.

In this context, ballot boxes were set up at the Court of Cassation to determine the new president who will serve for the next 4 years, and members of the Court of Cassation went to the polls as of 08:00 this morning.

NO RESULT IN THE FIRST ROUND

Following the first two rounds of the election, in which no candidate received the absolute majority of at least 175 votes out of the 348 members of the Court of Cassation, a third round of voting was held.

In the third round of the election, Court of Cassation President Akarca received 110 votes, Head of the Civil Chamber General Assembly Adem Albayrak received 22, Head of the 3rd Civil Chamber Ömer Kerkez and Head of the 3rd Criminal Chamber Muhsin Şentürk each received 96, and Head of the 12th Civil Chamber Ayhan Tuncal received 10 votes.

ELECTION MOVES TO THE FOURTH ROUND

With this result, the election has moved to the fourth round of voting to be held tomorrow.

In the fourth round of the election, the candidates who received the highest number of votes in the third round—Akarca, Kerkez, and Şentürk—will compete. If an absolute majority is not achieved in the fourth and fifth rounds of voting, the election will be repeated with those who re-apply for candidacy.

An absolute majority of the total number of members must be present for the elections.
